Chassis

Agile and safe driving in cities – while considering the particular requirements of electric drivetrains - affects the design of every component. To achieve an optimized and sporty driving experience in urban traffic, a suitable chassis design is essential. This includes a good force transmission between tire and road, which is already implemented in the current protoype through highly capable independent wheel suspension.

In the Visio.M project, the chassis is refined by the Institute of Automotive Technology (Lehrstuhl für Fahrzeugtechnik). Key aspects of development include the continuing optimization of weight and operation, the identification of load collectives and the validation of structural durability.

Driving dynamics control has become increasingly important for modern automobiles due to tougher safety requirements. For this reason, the core safety systems anti-lock brakes and ESP have been integrated in the prototype. Furthermore, the wheel-individual, active distribution of driving torque (torque vectoring) enabled by the innovative drive train provides an additional influence on driving behaviour while also increasing the amount of energy that can be recuperated during braking. Additionally, the system creates new possibilities to further enhance the driving experience and safety without speed-reducing brake interventions. The innovative control system facilitates the actuation depending on traction limits and yaw reaction.
